Introduction to Linguistics
Credits: 2 Code: KPE1207 This subject is an introductory discussion for those who are in the second semester of bachelor degree. In this subject the students are introduced to the study of linguistics. Those are: (1) definition of linguistics; (2) definitions of language; (3) reasons of studying linguistics; some subfields of linguistics; and a brief history of linguistics. Assignments given to the students are writing an essay of the importance of studying linguistics by the prospective English teacher and a summary of the lecture.

Phonology
Credits: 3 Code: KPE The third semester of undergraduate students might be interested in studying the sound system (phonetics) and the phonological system (phonology) in this class. Phonetics section, where the students mainly study articulatory phonetics beside auditory and accoustic phonetics, is allocated in the first half of semester. At the end of this section the students are supposed to be able to transcribe English utterances using International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), to describe the nature of human sound production, and to describe the basic concept of phonetics. The section of Phonology, where the students study the basic concept of Phonology and the way of doing a phonological analysis, is done in the second half of the semester. The final examination consists of an assignment to do phonological analysis based on the provided data. |

Morphology
Credits: 2 Code: KPE2406 The basic concept of morphology, derivation, inflection, and morphological analysis are the main topics discussed by the fourth semester undergraduate students in this class. In the mid-term test the students must be able to demonstrate their knowledge on the basic concept of morphology, derivation, and inflection while in the final exam they should be able to demonstrate their ability in doing morphological analysis. Summary on the materials discussed in the 16 meetings is all they need to prepare for their assigment.

Syntax
Credits: 2 Code: KPE3603 After studying morphology in the previous semester the students must be challanged to study syntax. Before the mid-term test the students learn mainly the basic concept of syntax, some schools in syntax, and syntactic analysis on simple sentences. After the mid-term test they practice how to do syntactic analysis on complex and compound sentences and on the "real" sentence obtained from the speech community's utterances. Assignment given to them is only preparing the summary of the 16 formal meetings. The mid-term test is done in the classroom but the final exam is a take-home one, containing activities of obtaining data and doing syntactic analysis.

Semantics
Code: KPE--- Credits: 2 Learning language meaning is very interesting, especially for those who have learned the basic concept of linguistics, phonology, morphology, and syntax. This scientific study of meaning covers only brief discussion on the concept of meaning, lexical meaning, phrasal meaning, sentence meaning, and discourse meaning. The first three topics are discussed in the first half of semester and , consequently, are the coverage of the mid-term test. The second half of semester covers the remaining topics. the only assignment in this class is preparing a summary of the 16 meetings in the classroom.

PSYCHOLINGUISTICS
Code: KPE Credits: 2 This subject is aimed at describing language perception, language production, and language acquisition. In addition to the discussions the students' are supposed to know as well the biological and psychological bases of human communication.
Before taking this subject it is mandatory that the sudents have completed Introduction to Linguistics. The project that the students should do is doing an observation concerning with the three important topics and report it in a form of scientific paper.
